Shikimic acid has the function of anti-inflammation, antalgic, and also is intermediate of anti-tumor, it is a media of antivirus and anticancer. It can inhibit blood platelet assembling and Thrombosis by affecting the metabolism of Arachidonic acid. It takes the anti-bird flu medicine Duffy the foundation raw material.
Now, Shikimic Acid serves as the starting material for Oseltamivir (the active principle of Tamiflu) which is a neuraminidase inhibitor used in the treatment and prophylaxis of both influenza A and influenza B.
